A man has been charged with two counts of assault involving a semi-automatic handgun for a targeted shooting that occurred near three schools in Concord, California. The incident, which took place on March 18, left one person wounded but did not result in fatalities. Authorities quickly identified the suspect, who was later arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. Notably, a loaded weapon was found during the arrest, and additional charges include shooting at an occupied vehicle. The man is being held in custody with a substantial bail amount as investigations continue.
Violence in school zones is simply unacceptable, Concord police said in their statement, adding they would dedicate all available resources to investigating and solving these crimes.
Police said they were notified by medics at John Muir Medical Center in Concord that medics had treated a shooting victim.
Investigators using the search warrant found a loaded gun when they arrested the man and later determined that the shooting had been a targeted attack.
Court records state that the man also is charged with shooting a gun at an occupied motor vehicle and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.
