Fall River police looking for man accused of destroying shooting victim's memorial

Fall River police are searching for William Acosta Abreu, 20, after he filmed himself demolishing a memorial dedicated to Diamonte Odom, 23, who was killed in May 2023 by a gunshot wound to the left eye. On May 18, police were notified that a County Street memorial for a gun violence victim had been destroyed. Police identified Acosta Abreu quickly because of easily recognizable tattoos and said he has multiple warrants. Police released a video showing him smashing glass candles and damaging the memorial site at 2:27 a.m. Police described him as dangerous and said he poses a threat to a defenseless memorial site when no one is around. Police also reported that officers attempted to pull over a car he was riding in last week, and the car allegedly sped off and nearly hit an officer. Police request tips on his location and allow anonymous reporting.

"Police quickly identified the alleged vandal as William Acosta Abreu, 20, due to his "easily recognizable tattoos," police said. Acosta Abreu has multiple warrants out for his arrest, police wrote. Fall River police released a video posted to social media of someone - identified by police as Acosta Abreu - smashing glass candles and ravaging through the memorial site at 2:27 a.m., police said."

""We included the video with the expletives edited out although it does not take a literary scholar to fill in the blanks," Fall River police said. Acosta Abreu is considered dangerous and also poses a threat to "to a defenseless memorial site in the wee hours of the night when no one is around," Fall River police said."

"Last week, Fall River police officers tried to pull over a car in which Acosta Abreu was riding, the department said. The car allegedly sped off and nearly hit an officer, according to police. Police request that anyone with information about Acosta Abreu's location to call police at [phone] or (508) 672-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous, police said."
