"Upon entry, it becomes clear that Lucuma is a feast for all five senses. It's teeming with life, as evidenced by the many patrons snacking on ceviches and crispy camarones throughout the restaurant. But the space itself could very well be mistaken for some kind of underwater dreamscape where the Pisco punch is free-flowing. A large straw octopus, handmade in Cusco, peers quizzically from its perch above the blue kit-kat tiled bar."
"A quipu - a tool the Incas used to communicate through knotted strings - is suspended in mid-air over the host stand like a jellyfish, and a row of snake plants extending upwards from an eggshell-blue potting gives the illusion of traversing over the sea floor. Exposed brick, natural wood beams and bursts of turquoise accents entourage velvety green seating and a marble backsplash."
Lucuma occupies Downtown Oakland and offers a visually immersive, sensory-rich dining environment. The space combines handmade Peruvian elements—like a large straw octopus from Cusco and floating kit-kat fish—with a suspended quipu and towering snake plants that evoke an underwater dreamscape. Exposed brick, natural wood beams, turquoise accents, velvety green seating and a marble backsplash create layered textures. Patrons sample ceviches, crispy camarones and Pisco punch amid lively atmosphere. Cofounders Garrett Morris and Renzo Roca designed the interior and menus themselves. They developed the menu and opened the restaurant within five months. The intent emphasizes unique Peruvian dishes and specific seating experiences.
