Dana Stubblefield, a former San Francisco 49ers player, is closer to potential release from prison after an appellate court and state Attorney General's Office supported his request for a bail hearing. Following the reversal of his 2020 rape conviction, his attorneys are preparing to argue for bail, citing the absence of a conviction. A hearing is set for February 7, but complications arose when a Superior Court judge claimed he lacked the authority to conduct a bail hearing until further appellate action is taken. Stubblefield’s legal team remains optimistic about his release in the near future.
Deputy Attorney General Moona Nandi stated that the Superior Court was designed to maintain its role while the appellate court re-evaluated Stubblefield's case and conviction.
Lead defense attorney Kenneth Rosenfeld expressed confidence, predicting, "I'm expecting Dana Stubblefield will be walking out the same door I'm walking out of," as they pursue bail.
