A Madrid court has set an October 2025 trial date for a 550-million-euro lawsuit against Meta by over 80 Spanish media, alleging violations of EU data protection rules.
The main media association AMI claims that Meta created ‘unfair competition’ by breaking EU data laws between May 2018 and July 2023, impacting traditional news outlets.
Meta’s attorney asserted that the company did not violate EU regulations, with claims that personal data is not used for personalized advertising and no competitive advantage gained.
In addition to AMI's lawsuit, Spanish radio and television stations filed another lawsuit against Meta for similar reasons, seeking 160 million euros in damages.
