Portugal has declared a day of mourning after a firefighting helicopter crashed in the Douro River, resulting in at least four fatalities and one person missing.
We're conducting underwater searches around the crash site and along the riverbanks following the helicopter accident, but we have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
The victims, all aged between 29 to 45, were members of the Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit. The civilian pilot survived with minor injuries, highlighting the risks of firefighting efforts.
Prime Minister Luis Montenegro announced that Saturday would be a national day of mourning, reflecting the country's deep sense of loss in this tragic incident.
