The group of medic MPs stated in their letter that 'many of us have extensive experience in palliative and terminal care and we have been aware for many years of the awful dilemma put before patients and clinicians in the last days of life.' They emphasized that the current law conflicts with their compassionate care for patients who wish to avoid suffering.
The cross-party group of MPs, led by Labour MP and GP Dr Simon Opher, noted that 'Parliament has to be brave enough to change the law in this difficult area for the benefit of patients,' indicating a strong call for legal reform in assisted dying.
