The European Commission has imposed a fine of €797.72 million on Meta for antitrust violations by tying Facebook Marketplace to Facebook and using non-public advertising data.
'All Facebook users automatically have access and get regularly exposed to Facebook Marketplace whether they want it or not,' raising concerns over competitors' visibility.
Margrethe Vestager stated, 'This is illegal under EU antitrust rules. Meta must now stop this behaviour,' highlighting the urgency of meta's compliance.
Competitors argue that Meta's data practices provide it with 'advantages that other online classified ads service providers could not match,' harming competition in the sector.
