BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group has unveiled the Jinji Lake Pavilion in Suzhou, which serves as a multifunctional venue for public gatherings. This 1,200-m2 pavilion blends modern public space with traditional Chinese courtyard design, consisting of four interconnected buildings under a stylized pixelated roof. Featuring expansive glass facades and polished steel surfaces, the pavilion harmonizes with its lakeside environment, offering stunning views and creating a tranquil community atmosphere. It marks BIG's first completed project in Suzhou, with future developments planned nearby.
The Jinji Lake Pavilion is conceived as a family of public rooms arranged under a single unifying canopy, evoking the architecture of traditional Chinese teahouses.
Nestled under the grand camphor trees, the pavilion provides a tranquil space for the community, envisioned as an extension of the surrounding canopy of foliage.
