Nonnegotiable parts of our work and social life necessarily happen on or via screens, and there's real reasons that we might want to preserve some of our relaxation time on screens in a guilt-free way. That said, it's not helpful to set unrealistic goals-it's better to start with a real recognition of what professional and social life in 2024 require.
According to a new report, worldwide internet users spend an average of 400 minutes daily online, translating to about 47 hours a week and 101 days a year. For an individual beginning at age 18 and living to 80, this totals more than 17 years of adult life spent using the internet.
In the U.S., people spend about seven hours and three minutes online per day, which could mean exceeding 18 years of their adult lives navigating the internet. In contrast, those in Japan spend the least time online daily, totaling nearly four hours.
