The Met's Next Fashion Blockbuster Takes On the Politics of Race
Briefly

The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is addressing racial issues in fashion with 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', highlighting Black dandyism's history and empowerment.
Andrew Bolton stated, 'I wanted to stage a show on race that could use our collection to tell a story that had been absent from the conversation both within the museum and outside.'
The exhibition will focus on how the concept of the dandy shifts when considered through a racial lens, illustrating the journey from oppression to identity.
For the first time, the Met’s fashion exhibition will concentrate solely on the work of designers of color and contemporary Black men’s wear, correcting past oversights.
