Rubin Hall at New York University recently completed a $7 million renovation aimed at sustainability, significantly improving energy efficiency while maintaining its historic character. The extensive updates included replacing old heating systems with hot water systems, modernizing student and staff workspaces, and redesigning custom windows to preserve landmark status. This renovation, part of NYU's ongoing commitment to sustainable development, supports the university's goal of reaching climate neutrality by 2040, as stated by Chief Sustainability Officer Cecil Scheib.
While the building got a massive overhaul, common spaces like the lobby still have an old-school feel.
We commit, in every new project of this scale, to look at a fully electric solution, to look at something that moves toward our climate neutral goal by 2040.
