"The streaming giant hasn't made any official announcement about the removal of the feature, and only acknowledged it on an updated help page. "Netflix no longer supports casting shows from a mobile device to most TVs and TV-streaming devices," the message reads. "You'll need to use the remote that came with your TV or TV-streaming device to navigate Netflix." Naturally, most users don't make a habit of perusing help pages for their streaming services and only noticed the absence of the feature when they went to use it."
"Users quickly started voicing their frustration online, with many claiming the issue was so frustrating they planned on canceling their subscription. The help page does mention troubleshooting tips for "older Chromecast device or a TV that works with Google Cast," so it does appear that you might still be able to cast if you have older devices. If you have a modern TV or streaming stick, though, it appears that your default TV remote is your only option now."
Netflix removed the ability to cast from mobile devices to most TVs and TV-streaming devices. The casting option had previously allowed users to browse and control Netflix from their phones, which was useful for those comfortable with phone navigation or without a TV remote. Earlier this year the feature was limited to higher, ad-free plans, and the restriction has now been applied broadly. Netflix updated a help page stating the casting limitation and instructing users to use their TV or streaming device remote. Older Chromecast or Google Cast devices may still work, but modern TVs and sticks appear affected, prompting user frustration and cancellation threats.
