Johnny Gandelsman's This Is America' at the Met Museum
Briefly

Gandelsman's project, This Is America, aims to capture modern American spirit through commissioned pieces reflecting love, hope, inequality, and injustice, drawing parallels to ongoing societal issues.
Gandelsman emphasized his mission saying: 'The rhetoric is still the same; the injustices are still the same. I am doing everything I can to represent these voices and support them and uplift them.'
His initiative began four years ago with a simple instruction to composers: to write for solo violin pieces that respond to current societal contexts, showcasing diverse musical styles.
The collection features a variety of compositions, including contemporary classical, jazz, world music, and electronics, illustrating a wide range of artistic responses to modern challenges.
