Zoe Mohm, a Paris-based jewelry maker, reflects on her lifelong passion for creating beautiful pieces, which she pursued full-time since 2020. Her work is heavily influenced by her cultural heritage, as her father hails from Burgundy and her mother from Cambodia. Mohm's designs are inspired by her family's traditions, yet she maintains an approach that avoids exoticism. Throughout her journey, she learned by using available resources and also gained formal training in accessory design. Her creativity shines through in pieces like a brass wire belt that symbolizes both Burgundy's viniculture and Cambodia's cultural elements.
I started early, as a child, using whatever tools and materials were around her family's home in the French capital and her paternal grandfather's workshop in Burgundy.
I was selling so many pieces that I didn't have the time to do anything else.
The inspirations for Ms. Mohm's designs vary widely, including the fact that her father is from Burgundy and her mother is from Cambodia.
I love that glow, she said. Silver glows, too. Noticing that glow, noticing and wanting to make pretty things, especially jewelry, was always something like an instinct.
