Tuvalu faces imminent threats from climate change, with projections indicating that more than 90% of its land may be underwater by the end of the century. The capital, Funafuti, is expected to be half submerged by 2050. Simon Kofe declared that Tuvalu must become the world's first digital nation as climate change threatens to submerge more than 90% of its land by the end of the century.
By 2050, Funafuti, the capital of Tuvalu, is expected to be half flooded due to rising tidal waters, with a local sea level increase twice the global average.
In a dramatic video address at Cop27, Kofe presented a virtual recreation of Te Afualiku island, stating, "So, we will recreate them virtually."
Without a global conscience and commitment to shared wellbeing, Kofe warned that other nations may soon find themselves online as their lands disappear.
