At MWC in Barcelona, Deutsche Telekom announced plans for an "AI Phone" created in collaboration with tech companies including Perplexity and Picsart. Set for launch in 2026 at a price below $1,000, this smartphone will be targeted initially at the European market. The device aims to feature advanced AI capabilities, specifically through a new assistant app named "Magenta AI." Perplexity's CEO highlighted a shift from merely answering queries to proactively managing tasks for users, signaling a significant evolution in AI integration within smartphones.
"We are becoming an AI company," said Claudia Nemat... but we do the AI agents."
Perplexity is transitioning from just being an answer machine to an action machine," Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO, stated.
It's going to start doing things for you, not just answering questions... like set smart reminders."
DT will unveil the device in the second half of this year, and it will start selling it in 2026 for under $1,000.
