The Taliban’s return to power in 2021 has seen a systematic rollback of women's rights in Afghanistan, leading to accusations of gross violations of women's rights.
Foreign ministers from Germany, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands announced their intention to take the Taliban to the International Court of Justice over their restrictions on women.
Their harsh restrictions include barring Afghan women from education beyond the sixth grade and from working with aid organizations, further entrenching gender-based discrimination.
The 114-page manifesto recently released by the Taliban codifies these restrictions, which have led human rights monitors to label Afghanistan as the most restrictive country for women.
