After a Naming Contest, Cardea Joins the Celestial Ranks as a Quasi-Moon
Briefly

On Monday, she joined the celestial ranks of fellow mythological figures like Mars, Venus and Andromeda. Cardea is not a planet or a constellation; she is a quasi-moon, a type of asteroid orbiting Earth. The International Astronomical Union selected the name Cardea through a contest that received over 2,700 entries.
The winning name was submitted by Clayton Chilcutt, a 19-year-old sophomore from the University of Georgia. He found Cardea's description to sound celestial, and he expressed pride in having contributed to science's history.
