The operation was among the most significant busts of counterfeit art in the last 15 years, as over 2,100 pieces were seized by Italy's art theft squad.

The investigation has led to 38 individuals being placed under investigation for conspiracy and forgery, pinpointing a robust illegal art market operating across Europe.
