According to a survey by open source database support biz Percona, the move to the Redis Source Available License (RSALv2) and Server Side Public License (SSPLv1) has motivated almost three quarters of the 151 developers and database managers questioned to look for alternatives. This significant shift reflects a broader trend of developers reassessing their options in light of licensing changes that impact commercial usability and open-source principles.
Vadim Tkachenko, Percona technology fellow, stated that the biggest challenge to migration was understanding the risks and rewards. He emphasized that the decision should not solely focus on avoiding vendor lock-in, which is certainly compelling, but rather be a comprehensive evaluation of the advantages and drawbacks involved with moving from Redis to alternative solutions.
