Cambridge Enterprise transitioned from tape-based backups to Keepit's SaaS cloud-to-cloud backup, saving costs and enhancing administrator productivity by streamlining data protection processes.
CTO Matt Whiting explained, 'We had to try to remember to rotate tapes and had to take them off-site.' This cumbersome method was replaced with a more efficient cloud solution.
Whiting highlighted the risk of relying solely on Microsoft cloud services, stating, 'If you accidentally delete something and don't notice for 30 days, that file is lost forever.' He emphasized that having everything in one place isn't secure enough.
The transition to cloud-based solutions was about ensuring longevity and security for sensitive data, as innovations can take 5 to 8 years to productize, and licensing agreements can last up to 50 years.
