Akasaki & Vanhuyse designed the WA table lamp using components from the retired Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line 8500 series. Around 1,400 resin strap handles were collected, cleaned, inspected, graded for imperfections, and repurposed into a limited run of 150 lamps. Each handle was sandblasted to remove glossy coating while retaining surface marks that reveal prior use. The lampshade comprises nine stacked resin rings with small gaps for soft light diffusion. Mirrored stainless steel legs and custom bolts reference the original strap form, and a transparent power cord reduces visual interference. Production prioritized reuse, durability, easy disassembly, recyclable packaging, and local manufacturing in Tokyo.
