The Magis Sculpture Exhibition at Fordham University features Bjørn Okholm Skaarup's beloved 'Hippo Ballerina' along with other whimsical sculptures. This outdoor exhibition, free for public viewing until December, includes works inspired by art history and modern animation. Skaarup's hippo, standing 15 feet tall and weighing 2.5 tons, draws influence from Edgar Degas and Disney's Fantasia. Visitors can also see sculptures from Jim Rennert that reflect contemporary societal themes, enhancing the cultural experience at the university's outdoor sculpture garden across from Lincoln Center.
Each sculpture presents a whimsical story or allegory to decipher, with sources ranging from ancient fables and art history to music and modern animation.
The Magis Sculpture Exhibition is free and open to the public through December, accessible using a staircase on the east side of Fordham's School of Law.
