That color blue made it a Room to Love
Briefly

In the front parlor of this Newton Centre Victorian, designer Sarah Cole created a beautiful fusion of her clients' designs through a peacock blue velvet sofa. It was crucial to find a middle ground for the couple's different tastes, as the Brazilian wife loves bolder pieces while the New England husband favors a more traditional style. 'For them, it's the color blue,' Cole explained, emphasizing the importance of choosing a hue that reflects both of their preferences.
To complement the vibrant blue sofa, the embroidered diamond drapery adds elegance while harmonizing with the plaid ottoman and floral patterns nearby. Abstract art pulls together geometric colors used throughout the home, showcasing the designer's keen eye in balancing the couple's diverse styles. 'Every room needs some black to ground it,' Cole remarked, pointing out how the Visual Comfort & Co. lamps not only provide function but also echo the drapery's zigzag pattern, creating visual unity.
The plaid wool on the ottoman is a perfect meeting point for the couple's differing aesthetics; 'the pattern is traditional but the palette - teal with a zippy red stripe - is vibrant,' Cole noted. This blend of old and new styles enriches the overall room atmosphere. Furthermore, leather chairs were chosen for their practicality with children, adding another texture layer while the custom-cut broadloom carpet extends throughout the room, making the space feel larger and more coherent.
