Patricia Araujo, a Miami-born artist with Colombian roots, celebrated a career milestone with her first exhibition in Bogotá. Featuring 11 oil paintings of the city’s architecture, the exhibit evoked her longstanding dream of showcasing work in her homeland. Araujo's artistic journey began in childhood, influenced by her architect father and her love of Bogota's buildings. Her art reflects the unique blend of her dual nationality and experiences, rich with inspiration from both the vibrant cityscapes of Bogotá and the architectural wonders observed through her father's work in Disney Imagineering.
"Having double nationality, exhibiting in Colombia has always been my dream," the artist told 48 Hills. "About a decade ago, I decided to start painting Bogotá's architecture."
"It was an old brick building that no longer exists," said Araujo. "But it had this grand entrance with an arched doorway and emerald-green stained-glass window. I'd try to replicate that entrance in my drawings."
Araujo credits her mother for always encouraging her to make art. And summer visits with her father in Florida for continuing to fuel her passion for architecture.
"He'd always be doing beautiful renderings. He was quite the artist."
