Shane Hollander's Architect Speaks
"It was very cool to see our work on such a large platform outside of the architectural community,"
"We were not aware of how big it would become once it was released."
"Once you're inside the spaces, they are very private."
Barlochan Cottage is a 2,500-square-foot prefab timber-and-granite house in Ontario designed and built by Trevor McIvor Architect. The structure uses Douglas fir and charred siding for enhanced durability, with a granite central fireplace and concrete slab floors incorporating radiant heating. The house features extensive glazing yet maintains privacy within its interior spaces. The property was built in 2020 for private clients and is not currently available for rental. The cottage appeared on a streaming show, increasing public exposure to the firm's work and prompting public interest in the design.
