The expansion of an existing structure into a furniture design studio and showroom focuses on unifying spatial qualities and enhancing energy performance. By incorporating Chicago's historical context, common brick walls were extended with limited openings due to property line constraints. A distinctive facade featuring terra-cotta paver bricks filters light and reduces heat from southern exposure. The design uses reclaimed and new brick to create a unique identity while honoring the city's brick architectural heritage, ultimately achieving a blend of structure, context, and aesthetics.
