Kwong Von Glinow's retreat, 'Some of This, Some of That,' is expertly designed to harmonize with its forested surroundings. It utilizes a grid of nine T-shaped volumes that dictate the layout, effectively merging utility spaces with living areas like the family room and library. This configuration not only opens up the floorplan but also allows for visual connections across the house and outwards to nature. A cast-in-place concrete floor that follows the land's natural slope provides seamless transitions between spaces, while an interior-exterior cinder-block facade deepens the relationship with the landscape.
The innovative design by Kwong Von Glinow utilizes a nine-point grid with T-shaped volumes, creating an efficient and fluid open plan for family living.
By rotating the T-shaped volumes relative to one another, the retreat achieves unique spatial differentiation while maintaining visual access across the entire structure.
