NAS architecture revives 17th-century chapel in southern france as third-place library
Briefly

In Rochefort-du-Gard, France, NAS architecture revitalizes the historic center with La Source, a contemporary library extension integrated within the restored Saint-Joseph Chapel. Originally built in the 17th century, the chapel had become derelict after its closure. The new design includes folding glass doors that open onto a square, allowing for community gatherings and open-air events. This project not only preserves history but also creates a digital museum within the chapel, establishing La Source as a hub for culture that re-engages the community and enhances public space.
The architectural intervention transforms Rochefort-du-Gard's historic center by breathing new life into the abandoned Saint-Joseph Chapel, now home to a contemporary library and cultural space.
With its accordion-style folding glass doors, La Source encourages open-air events, fostering community interaction and revitalizing the village's public spaces.
