Juxtapoz Magazine - Ryan Heshka and the "Costume Obscura"
Briefly

Corey Helford Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles will showcase 'Costume Obscura,' a solo exhibition by Ryan Heshka starting February 1st. The Canadian artist's whimsical paintings draw from diverse influences, including comic books and pop culture, emphasizing themes of fashion and identity. Heshka describes his new work as stemming from years of fashion sketches, which evolved into bizarre collages and expressive attire. This collection serves not only as a tribute to the world of fashion but also as a commentary on the personas we craft through our clothing choices, exploring deeper layers of identity.
The paintings in Costume Obscura had their origins in a backlog of fashion-curious drawings I had created over many years, which accumulated in my sketchbooks.
It is a love letter to the inspiration of fashion and designers, past and present, famous and obscure, intentional and unintentional.
