The 'Landscapes' exhibition features 27 artists exploring ecology and spirituality through contemporary lenses. It discusses the concept of 'Land Sickness,' as described in Nikolaj Schultz's 2023 book, focusing on humanity's consumption and exhaustion of the natural world. As artists confront climate anxiety and ecological crises, the works reflect the primal connection we maintain with the land. This 350 sqm exhibition emphasizes experiential engagement, with large-scale pieces immersing viewers and prompting reflection on our interconnectedness with nature and the urgency of addressing climate change.
We are all suffering from 'Land Sickness'; the earth is shaking, and we are shaking with it... - Nikolaj Schultz
Landscapes are sites for numinous experiences, sites that depersonalise and reveal anew. They are entropy, matter, time, energy, topology, mimicry, perception and consciousness.
The landscape is important to the history of humans thus the history of art and also for its connection to commerce and climate change.
Many of the works are large, dwarfing the viewer, mimicking the vastness of experiencing a landscape in person.
