Brooklyn-based artist JJ Manford has unveiled a stunning new solo exhibition titled Fifth Season at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Known for his vibrant depictions of interior spaces using oil stick on canvas, Manford's work radiates with a dreamlike quality, blending textured forms with dynamic compositions.
Manford's signature style is characterized by his intuitive approach to creating intricate and layered scenes. Rather than replicating real-life settings or photographs, the artist allows his subconscious to guide the flow of each painting.
In Fifth Season, Manford weaves together a tapestry of cultural references that span art and design history. His paintings are filled with nods to his artistic heroes, including the graphic compositions of Keith Haring, the PH5 hanging lamp designed by Poul Henningsen, and sculptures by Asger Jorn and Alexander Calder.
Through his work, Manford invites viewers to explore a world where reality and imagination intersect. The vibrant colors, textured surfaces, and carefully placed objects contribute to an atmosphere that blurs the lines between dreams and waking life.
