Harlem is now truly on the Met's mind
Briefly

Although New York City was a central hub of the Harlem Renaissance, other cities like Chicago and Philadelphia also had vibrant African American artistic communities. Despite its impact on Modernism, the movement's artists were often overlooked by major museums, both in collections and exhibitions.
The recent exhibition by the Met, The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism, marks only the fourth museum survey on the era and the first in New York in almost four decades. It reflects a change in the museum's approach towards inclusivity and recognition of Black artists.
