Forget Upholstery: Lrke Ryom Tailors Furniture Instead - Yanko Design
"The daybed is probably the clearest expression of the concept. Long, low, and dressed in Kvadrat wool with visible quilting stitches running across its surface, it reads more like a made bed than a piece of showroom furniture."
"Ryom chose the twill weave edge band specifically because it is rooted in clothing and home textiles rather than furniture. 'It places the upholstery pieces somewhere in between,' she has said, 'adding to the feeling of a tailored piece rather than upholstery.'"
Lærke Ryom's exhibition Raiments features a collection of furniture that challenges traditional upholstery methods. The pieces, including a daybed, chair, and lamps, are designed in calming cream and chocolate-brown hues. The daybed exemplifies the concept, with fabric allowed to drape naturally over the frame. The bench incorporates a twill weave edge band, linking it to clothing textiles. The chair, built on an aluminum frame, offers a lightweight feel, enhancing comfort and ease in design.
