The British Museum has received a historic donation of 1,700 Chinese ceramic items, valued at approximately £1bn, marking the highest value object donation in UK museum history.
Colin Sheaf emphasized that the donation preserves the collection intact, displays every piece together in a dedicated gallery, and serves educational purposes for future scholars and the public.
The collection, dating from the third to the 20th century, includes highlights such as a Ming dynasty Doucai 'Chicken cup' and a Northern Song dynasty Jun stoneware dish.
Percival David, born in Mumbai, is recognized as a premier Western collector of Chinese ceramics, establishing a lifelong connection with the British Museum since 1929.
