BIG's Jinji Lake Pavilion is a newly completed 1,200-square-meter public structure in Suzhou, China, marking their first project in the city. Designed to facilitate community interactions, the pavilion features a unique glazed ceramic tiled roof and a central courtyard surrounded by transparent glass facades. The structure consists of four interconnected volumes, accommodating various functions like a café and a visitor center, while honoring Suzhou's traditional teahouse aesthetic. This pavilion is part of a larger initiative to enhance the 13-kilometer lakeside promenade, providing a serene environment for visitors.
The Jinji Lake Pavilion is conceived as a family of public rooms arranged under a single unifying canopy, reflecting the rich heritage of Suzhou's architecture.
Nestled under the grand camphor trees along the lake, the Jinji Lake Pavilion provides a tranquil space for the community, envisioned as an extension of the surrounding foliage.
