Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and ALB-Architect have designed the first Opera & Ballet Theatre of Kosovo, which will be situated in Prishtina's emerging cultural district. This venue is poised to enhance the performing arts landscape, serving as a home for the country's Philharmonic, Ballet, and Opera. The design features a distinctive curvilinear form inspired by a traditional Kosovo garment and includes multiple performance halls along with a public plaza, fostering greater community engagement and accessibility, while also integrating with the Palace of Youth & Sports.
The Opera & Ballet Theatre of Kosovo, designed by BIG and ALB-Architect, is set to transform Prishtina, serving as the first opera house in Kosovo.
The theatre will include multiple performance spaces, reinforcing its role as a cultural hub within Prishtina, housing the nation's Philharmonic, Ballet, and Opera.
Inspired by the traditional Xhubleta, the building's flowing design, clad in photovoltaic tiles, embodies the cultural identity of Kosovo and enhances public space.
The theatre's design promotes accessibility and community engagement, with adaptable performance venues that connect with the surrounding cultural district.
