"I've been playing with this idea of fact and fiction, and about how, essentially, the images that we see become reality," Rouhana tells The Art Newspaper. "I think the types of images that we see have an effect on society. So, for people to see these types of images [in the exhibitions], I think, changes people's perceptions of Palestine."
Before Freedom exhibition showcases rarely seen images of Palestinians enjoying everyday life, aiming to alter perceptions and provide a multidimensional view of Palestine, including both joy and struggle.
The conflict with Israel is highlighted in Rouhana's artwork, with works portraying the restrictions on Palestinian movement and the impact of the ongoing conflict amidst everyday Palestinian life.
Rouhana's exhibitions aim to challenge the conventional narrative of Palestinian life by juxtaposing everyday joys and struggles under occupation, offering a more nuanced and diverse representation of the country.
