Each leg of ROCI involved meticulous research, funding, and collaboration with artists and cultural figures from countries like China, Cuba, and the Soviet Union.
Rauschenberg's ROCI China exhibition in 1985 attracted over 300,000 attendees and featured his 7 Characters series, collages of Chinese characters.
For ROCI Cuba in 1988, Rauschenberg created paintings on aluminium and steel using primary colors and showcased them at various venues in Havana.
