Awulai Ashia & Nkyinkyim Exhibition at Gagosian / DeRoche Projects
Briefly

I Do Not Come to You By Chance is Amoako Boafo's first exhibition in London at Gagosian Mayfair, designed by DeRoche Projects. The exhibition represents an ongoing collaboration between Boafo and DeRoche, following previous projects in Accra and the Volta Pavilion. The design incorporates a Courtyard Pavilion and the social sculpture Nkyinkyim, showcasing architecture as an active medium reflecting Boafo's cultural heritage. The exhibition emphasizes themes of strength, resilience, and shared identity through its spatial arrangements.
The spatial strategy is anchored by a Courtyard Pavilion in Gallery 1 and the social sculpture Nkyinkyim in Gallery 2.
Both interventions treat architecture not as backdrop, but as an active medium.
Architecture reflects the cultural foundations of Boafo's work while amplifying the portraits' focus on strength, resilience, and shared identity.
The project extends an evolving creative exchange between the artist and architect.
