A spokesperson for PayPal said: "There are many scams out there, and new ones are constantly being created. We work hard to protect our customers, but there are still a few simple precautions we should all take to avoid falling victim to scams, including phishing. First of all, if you receive a suspicious email, such as this containing an unexpected invoice, don't act on the message, call any phone numbers, or click on any links."
PayPal advises account holders that if they receive unwarranted invoices or money requests, they should log into their account, report the issue, and also forward suspicious emails to phising@paypal.com. They should delete the emails after forwarding.
