Labour governments historically had higher unemployment when they left office; exceptions include the Labour minority government in 1924 and the wartime government under Churchill. Some Conservative governments also faced increased unemployment.
Unemployment is currently lower than when the Conservatives came into power in 2010 as part of the Coalition government.
