For several years now, I have kept a personal running spreadsheet during the draft process. The goal was to learn about the players, tweaking information along the way, called interest and athletic scores.
The scores aim to align with the type of player the Steelers seek, based on draft trends studied by Dave Bryan and Alex Kozora, reflecting successful past draft picks by Pittsburgh.
Interest Score focuses on college performance, body type, experience, age, position, competition level, pro-day attendance, meetings, and Senior/Shrine Bowl involvement.
Athletic Score considers 11 combine metrics, excluding wingspan and meeting certain thresholds, mirroring these metrics with past Steelers draft picks at the player's position.
