In response to the staggering loss, McCarthy posed questions to the team about their inconsistencies, such as, 'Why are we on this ebb and flow?' stressing the need for introspection and improvement.
He pointed out the importance of basic football principles, stating, 'Our basics are not in order... It starts with the turnover ratio. Fundamentals of football are part of your everyday existence in this game.'
McCarthy indicated that the assessment will also extend to coaching methods, stating, 'We have to take a hard look at how we prepared going into the game,' highlighting the collaborative effort needed for recovery.
