Proteus in Subnautica 2 contains multiple Leviathans, which are the game’s primary feared predators. In early access, four Leviathans can be encountered: the Collector, the Shiver, the Great Jaw, and the Deepwing Brooder. Three Leviathans are dangerous to the player, while the Deepwing Brooder is docile and does not harm the player even at close range. The Collector is the most frequently encountered Leviathan because it spawns often and is near story objectives. It is commonly found in gorges between major eastern areas and around the Alien Ruins. Players most often encounter it about 800–1,000 meters east of the starting lifepod, and its presence is signaled by distinct music.
