William Duplessie has been indicted for kidnapping, assault, and other charges relating to the torture of an Italian man in Manhattan. Prosecutors allege Duplessie and accomplice John Woeltz held the victim for 17 days, subjecting him to brutal treatment, including threats to his family. The victim managed to escape after revealing his computer password. This case has drawn additional scrutiny on NYPD detectives who worked at the location of the crime. As both men remain in custody, they await further legal proceedings after the sealed indictment is unsealed in June.
Duplessie and Woeltz lured the victim to a posh townhouse in Manhattan's Soho neighborhood on May 6 by threatening to kill his family.
Held captive for 17 days, the victim was tormented with electrical wires and forced to smoke from a crack pipe.
The grand jury indictment included severe charges such as kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Duplessie, a blockchain investor, appeared in court in handcuffs with no comment on the serious allegations against him.
