Officials: San Francisco child presumptively tests positive for bird flu
Briefly

Public health officials in San Francisco announced that a child has presumptively tested positive for H5N1 bird flu but has since fully recovered, posing low risk to the public.
Dr. Grant Colfax reassured residents: 'I want to assure everyone in our city that the risk to the general public is low, and there is no current evidence that the virus can be transmitted between people.'
The California Department of Health reported 37 human cases of bird flu since Dec. 23, mostly linked to cattle exposure, and none required hospitalization.
Health officials are investigating the child's case, who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses, which complicates the assessment of H5N1 contraction.
