The Higher Regional Court in Cologne ruled that the Federal Health Ministry must pay 85 million euros plus 33 million in default interest for face masks it ordered but refused to accept or pay for during the pandemic.
If the Health Ministry loses the pending 100 similar lawsuits, the total loss could reach 2.3 billion euros, marking one of the biggest tax wastage scandals in Germany's history.
