Sibling-Owned Gara Permanently Parks in Berkeley with Vietnamese Focus
""The design of Gara is meant to reflect the spirit of a garage as a modular, creative/work/lounging space. We wanted the cafe to feel like a place where people can gather, work on projects and spend time together.""
""That history is a big part of the inspiration behind Gara," Thomas Nguyen said."
Gara, a Vietnamese coffee shop in Berkeley, offers drinks and foods inspired by the founders' heritage, including coffee from their family's farm in Vietnam. The cafe features a mural reflecting Vietnamese culture and serves classic Vietnamese coffee, espresso drinks, and specialty options. The design combines industrial elements with warm materials, creating a productive yet homey atmosphere. Inspired by a family trip to Vietnam, the Nguyens launched Gara as a pop-up, continuing a family tradition of garage-based businesses that began with their grandparents.
